The 2019 French Open better known as Rolland Garros began on May 26th. Last year Rafael Nadal and Simona Halep won this clay court tennis grand slam tournament.

This year men are led by Novak Djokovic as the top seed followed by Nadal. The evergreen Roger Federer is the third seed ahead of younger players like Dominic Thiem and Alexander Zverev.

As of 3rd June, 37-year-old Federer will meet compatriot Stan Wawrinka in the quarter-final. Incidentally, Wavrinka was the 24th seed. He defeated the 6th seed, Stephanos Tsitsipas of Greece to reach the quarterfinals.

The match between Federer and Stan will be played on 4th June 2019. Head to head, Federer has won 22 matches against Wawrinka, and Wawrinka has won 3, but this should not be a concern for Wawrinka, their past matches have been close.

Nadal has also reached quarterfinals. He would be playing the winner from Kei Nishikori who defeated Benoit Paire. Nishikori is the seventh seed whereas Paire was unseeded and yet reached the 4th round after defeating Pierre Hugues Herbert.

Djokovic is to play his quarterfinal match against Zverev who defeated 9th seed Fabio Fognini. Djokovic reached the quarters after defeating unseeded Jan Lennard Struff.

The last pair of the quarter-final is Thiem vs the 10th seed Karen Khachanov, who in turn defeated 8th seed, Juan Martin Del Potro.

Effectively, among men, only Del Potro did not succeed as expected.

But it is women players who have consistently thrown surprises. The first shock came from Angelique Kerber, who lost to unseeded Anastasia Potapova in the first round.

Kerber was the 5th seed. This was followed by Karolina Pliskova the second seed losing to Petra Martic, the 31stseed. Then the 9th seed Elina Svitolina lost to the 19th seed Garbine Muguruza.

The biggest shock, however, was from Serena Williams, who was seeded 10th but was expected to reach finals as she always does. Serena manages to raise eyebrows with her attire, and this year was no exception.

However, she bowed out in the third round to unseeded Sofia Kenin. Even the 1st seed Naomi Osaka lost in the third round to unseeded Katerina Siniakova.

A couple of seeded players such as Kiki Buttons and Petra Kvitova retired. Therefore, Halep would be facing unseeded Amanda Anisimova in quarterfinals.Wilson Federer Adult Strung Tennis Rackethttps://amzn.to/2SMbqra

The 7th seed Sloane Stephens from the US will be facing Johanna Konta of Britain. Konta is the 26th seed. Australian Ashley Barty also made it to the quarter-final.

She is the 8th seed and will have to defeat Madison Keys of the US to reach semi-finals.

Madison Keys is the 14th seed for this tournament. Martic the 31st seed who defeated Pliskova will face unseeded Marketa Vondrousova.

The tournament will get over on the 9th of June, 2019. There are interesting times ahead for tennis players. Fans would, of course, want their idols to win, but new unseeded players like the young Vondrousova among women are worthy contenders too, and about to get their fan following. An update on who has reached semi-finals is around the corner.

I hope to add more to this post as matches go on. But in the meantime, who is your top tip to with the French open 2019? leave me a message below.
